Hmmmm, got me thinking. Is this a temperament thing? Are there performance poetry that is effective without being romantic and sappy and presumptive? Does poetry have to be a flat, data report as he asks of us? Is there any sarcasm there? Has he done both?
Sorry for the delay in replying. Life has been filled to the brim for a few weeks and my blog has mostly been on hold. ;-(
Poetry doesn’t have to be that flat data report. However, I believe that in a poem of quality, the words carry all the meaning, and not the voice adding emotional input.
A good example of poetry read with that “flat” voice is that used in the channel, SpokenVerse, on YouTube. This is the fellow who read “The Cinnamon Peeler’s Wife” that you loved.
There are those that do well with the ‘theatrical’ reading as well. The quality example of this would be Maya Angelo. She is amazing.
Thanks for stopping by again Sabio. I’ll get more writing done soon.
so cool..loved it..is it read by himself as well? awesome
Yes, I believe it was read by himself. I think there was a small bit of editing by the video maker, though. Glad you liked it.
