My stupor drags me up the stairs,
the pedestal of gods’ affairs.
I turn agape at mob below,
the drug scarce past my pain and cares.

The thund’rous beating, this I know:
My heart awaits priest’s savage blow.
The magic spoken, hush befalls,
the sun is smitten,dark’ning glow.

The day to night with murmured ‘thrall
to stay the moment – end of all,
with blade I’m pierced,a hand within
to pluck my heart with bodied fall.

And laying there, now purged from sin,
stone-bled by Montezuma’s whim
to sacrifice, I’m choice of men,
my death to day brings light again.
